The Southern Women’s League has a similar structure to the men’s league. SMRAC has a team in Division 3 North, where it competes with 15 other teams in 5 fixtures a season, against 3 other clubs in each fixture.

The main difference between the men’s and women’s leagues is that the women’s includes a full programme of events for under-15 girls, for which girls between 11 and 14 are eligible, in addition to a full programme for senior women. Under-17 girls compete as seniors, part from in the 300m hurdles and 80m hurdles for which there are specific under-17 events. The senior women’s events are: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot, discus, javelin, hammer, and 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay. For under-15s the events are: 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 75m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot, discus, javelin and 4 x 100m. There are ‘A’ and ‘B’ string competitors for each event apart from the under-17 300m hurdles, plus the possibility of non-scoring competitors at 100m, 800m, 3000m, under-17 300m hurdles, 4x100m and 4x400m.

Points scoring is a little different from the men’s league. Only 4 points are scored for first place in an event, down to 1 for last place. And there are no match points, as there are in the men’s league. Aggregate event points  determine league position  and the top two (or three?) clubs are promoted.
